The Irving Penn Foundation

Known for his iconic portraits and striking minimalist style, Irving Penn spent 70 years as a photographer and artist who elevated commercial work to fine art. Now, for the first time, the Irving Penn Foundation is presenting 70 of his works to auction at Philips on October 8. The Lots include photographs of his most famous subjects, as well as a selection of paintings and watercolors, each displaying Penn’s signature attention to detail and visionary style. “My father’s inspiration came from trying to isolate a specific challenge and to remove all of the things that were extraneous, and to focus entirely on coming up with something that was absolutely unique from a completely different perspective,” says Tom Penn, the artist’s only son and Executive Director of the Foundation. The available Lots are on view starting today at 432 Park Avenue 4-25 until October 7.
